Overview
Botswana is the purest safari country in Africa: huge wild areas, very few visitors and some of the best wildlife anywhere. The Okavango Delta is a maze of channels and islands explored in silence by mokoro. Moremi and Savuti are famous for lions and wild dogs. Chobe has the largest elephant population on Earth, best seen from a boat on the river. Victoria Falls, a short hop across the border in Zimbabwe, makes a spectacular finale. Without a car, Botswana works well because nobody self-drives here anyway: you join a mobile safari (a guide, a 4×4 and a camp crew), travel by mokoro, and hop between regions on small planes. The price is the catch: Botswana deliberately keeps tourism 'high-value, low-volume'.
